Burger Joint

Filling the need for a good old-fashioned hamburger since 1994

  • Naturally-fed Niman Ranch Beef
  • Free-range Chicken
  • Veggie Burgers, too

We've brought our delicious burgers to hungry diners in the Haight! Call ahead and we'll pack it to go for you.

From ZAGAT 2002, "...hits the spot with what many deem the best damn burgers in the city (great milkshakes too); since the grilled patties are fashioned from juicy Niman Ranch hormone-free beef, you don't feel as guilty indulging on that PMS-requisite red-meat urge."

Burger Joint is a local favorite: The restaurant has been nominated for the Best Burger, Best Cheap Eats & Best Family-Friendly Restaurant in the Best of Citysearch 2003 and was selected "Best Low Cost Niman Ranch Burger" by the San Francisco Bay Guardian.

We feature all natural ingredients including Niman Ranch beef, hormone-free chicken, hand-cut fries cooked in peanut oil. Not only is the high-quality food good, but the atmosphere is fun! Come see for yourself why Burger Joint is a local favorite.

Editorial Review for Burger Joint – by Citysearch Staff

The Scene
The eye-popping color scheme of the original Burger Joint on Valencia has been toned down here. Booths are covered in slate-blue vinyl with red trim, while the white walls are decorated with black-and-white stencils of happy '50s-style characters enjoying the burger life.

The Food
Burger Joint is true to its name: The short menu sticks to burgers and hot dogs, along with grilled chicken breast sandwiches and garden burgers. And there's no mystery meat here; instead, the burgers and all-beef hot dogs are made with Niman Ranch meat, so you won't find any chemicals or added hormones in your meal, and only free-range chicken breasts make it into the sandwiches. Every burger comes with a pile of thick-cut fries. If you want to splurge, try one of the rich and creamy milkshakes made with Double Rainbow ice cream.

I was very impressed with the Burger Joint. The ambiance isn't much to speak of, but the service and food was excellent! The staff was friendly and the burgers and fries were delicious. I even splurged on a strawberry milkshake and I was not disappointed. I got my meal to go and I was delighted to discover the bag included all the extra's such as, mayonnaise, ketchup, pepper, and napkins - no mustard though.

Pros: Good food, Quick, Good value

Cons: Ambiance

BJ is one of the places that makes San Francisco a great place to eat. The burgers and fries are something special, and I can't quite tell you why. The meat's just a little fresher or something - but even better, BJ isn't full of itself. The furnishings are looking a little dated, oh so 1999, but now it's just a friendly local place for a great bite in the middle of a drinkin' evening. The place is counter service, which makes it plenty fast, but don't expect a Dining Experience.
