I'll admit I only come here to use the pool. I'm very picky about where I swim and their pool is probably the best in the area. The rest of their facility looks very clean and tidy though.
Expensive and Mediocre

I had to write a review only because this gym has 5 stars which I cannot understand. It is mediocre at best. I have been working out for years and have had gym memberships in 5 California cities, Denver, Chicago, and NYC.
This gym has a decent but small pool, basic but adequate weight machines and free weights (not extensive by any means and I find myself missing certain machines my gym in Chicago had), cardio machines, and group classes.
I can't find anything SPECIAL about this gym! Really, it is good enough to work out in and meets the minimum criteria for deciding to join, but nothing inspires me and there are things that have me itching to quit if I could find another local gym.
Classes are nothing special. Pool, nothing special. Weights nothing special. Cardio machines ALWAYS have lines during the busy times. No boxing equipment and a pretty lame spinning space (part of the lobby has been partitioned off).
The hours suckk... closes at 10pm, 9pm Fri and 6pm weekends. And you have to pay for validated parking. Who is going to walk to downtown Oakland except during daylight hours.
The killer thing is it is very expensive for what you get.
$85/month, and I think I paid $120 for the first month.
If that isn't bad enough, about a month after I joined I received a notice telling me that they were billing all their members $12 extra that month because their energy bills were higher than expected! What? Where was extra billing without my consent in my contract?
I probably could have fought it, but who has the time or energy for $12, which is clearly what they counted on.
I think I'm going to start charging my patients $23 or $31 dollars more, and tell them my electricity bill was higher.
Unfortunately, they are the only game in town. It pains me that I am still a member and paying for this.
Don't get me wrong, I would pay twice as much for a great gym with great service, but this place is worth $40 a month at best.
My gym in Chicago (which as a rule gym memberships tend to be more expensive than Cali) was $42/month and Everything was better than ClubOne.
- Pros: The only Gym in town (besides 24 hr fitness)
- Cons: Mediocre and expensive

This club is amazing. It has three floors and is very extensive in it's offerings. Pool, whirlpools, basketball, racquetball, squash, a wonderful private pilates studio, multiple group exercise rooms, saunas, steam rooms and all the amenities you can imagine. The employees also seem warm and well educated.
- Pros: Amazing Club
Well rounded gym

I used this gym for 4 tears and found it to be very well run. They upgrade some equipment every year. The basketball court can be very crowded making it hard for the casual player to walk up. 2 night a week its used for volleyball. nice Raquetball/ Squash courts.
