In Short – Originally built in 1883, the Chabot Space and Science Center (CSSC) sits atop a 13-acre site in the Oakland hills. Chabot has to be my favorite science museum. It's got so much to do and is a nice facility with primo location for star-gazing. Staff is super nice and the flight simulation is uber cool! definitely recommend! and be sure to check out the state-of-the-art planetarium!

Know Before You Go:
Telescopes are available for free public viewing Friday and Saturday, 7-10pm, weather permitting.
When to Go:
The Center is home to the Telescope Makers' Workshop, a volunteer group that has helped people make their own telescopes since 1967. The group meets Fridays, 7-10pm; no experience necessary.
