Editorial Review for The Oasis – by Matt McKillop

The Scene
The atmosphere will be familiar to those who spend any time in sports bars. Pennants and posters adorn the walls, with a heavy emphasis on the Stanford Cardinal. TVs are plentiful and a small grove of video games and pinball machines lines a side wall. The wooden tables and booths are all deeply etched with years upon years of drunken engraving. The clientele ranges from sorority types to suits.

The Draw
Don't bring your dietary restrictions to the Oasis--that is, unless your diet forces you to eat nothing but French fries and red meat--because the O's delicious menu of all-American fare is heavy on the beef and grease of the pizza and burger variety. Perfectly accompanied by one of the several domestic and craft beers they have on tap.

I have gone to the Oasis for their burgers and atmosphere since I was a little girl! I first visited it probably in the mid '70's and it is one of my favorite spots I must go to every time I am in the bay area. Mid - seventies, hippie daddy and his friends would take me there. I will always treasure the memories, and will always come back for those wonderful greasy old fashioned burgers, pinball, great wooden booths where I carved my initials so many times. Thanks for the treasured times between Daddy and daughter!

Pros: funky, casual, relaxing

Cons: needs more parking

Went to the Oasis to catch a World Series Game. What a mistake and waste of time. We missed 2 innings on the drive home. 2 Little TV's at the bar and one SMALLER one for the whole eating area to share and NO volume. You couldn't hear a thing. AND to top it off the worst hot dog with sauerkraut I've ever tasted and a skimpy, tasteless burger for my friend. This place is a definite zero as a sports bar. Kinda cute as a place to enjoy a beer if you're planning on eating elsewhere, though.

Part laid-back sports bar, part Stanford hangout, there's no better place to watch a game over a pitcher.  See the full editorial review.
