Great music and dancing. The crowd is pretty decent midweek. The music is always good (except Mondays) and the place is always clean. Don't expect too much from their drinks, and their service could use a little work as well.

Oh Ruby, how you have changed.... Yep, there are super cheap well drinks for students with ID. That part is pretty cool.

I used to love the ruby room, but in the last few years, things have changed. There are a lot more men here, and a lot fewer women. A lot fewer people in general, lately.

The music is awesome. They play 80's metal, etc - depending on the night. There is a dance floor and lots of cozy little tables.

The pool table is in the newly designed smoking area. It's walled off so - if you're a smoker, you can smoke inside and not bother the non-smokers. If you're a non-smoker though, you have to deal with the smoke if you want to play pool.

I used to go out of my way to go to ruby room, and meet all sorts of exciting people there. I still head there if I'm with a friend and in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't go out of my way...

BEWARE. The people who go there seem laid back. The place is dark and smokey. The service sucks, you have to muscle you way into getting a drink. The security is a little on the racist side. Don't look suspect or shall I say be of color. You won't be able to relax without looking over your shoulder to assure you haven't been labeled or classified. If you just want to see how a racist bar functions within a interracial city. This is your spot! Great for a psychology project. Oakland is a majority black populated city but you would think you just walked into a dive bar in the back woods of Alabama once you enter this spot.

A local hangout!!!. Live in Oakland greta place to hang out and have a cocktail, nice low light smoker friendly bar located next to Oaklands lake merrit, good vibe between the the bartenders and others patrons as well, a must do if live in the area!!!

With a nifty art-deco entrance, exposed-rock walls and dim red lights, Ruby Room has the feel of a cool 1950s lounge. However, the graffiti in the bathroom and cigarette burns on the pleather banquettes in the small lounge area are scars from its punk-rock past. A pool table in the rear exists for barhoppers who can feign athletic ability after sipping inexpensive drinks (less than $5 for top-shelf tippling).

Shake The Tail Feather. I had the chance to pop by one random Wednesday night. Much to my surprise the evening's sonorous pleasures were Soul. After I ordered my Jamison's on the rocks, I looked over to the dj booth noticing a petite hot mama spining some great mixes of yore. The whole scene was cool, people dancing, hanging out and enjoying themselves. I finally left after about an hour shaking myself into a sweaty mess...aaah, such a nice night.

$.02. Went there on a sunday night. Good laid back vibe and the bartender was friendly. I counted four beer taps that were on the nothing fancy side. Music was varied in genre but not it's good quality. Lots of couples by the bar while i found groups of guys hung out in the back close to the pool table (i think there was just one). As the editor describes, the Ruby Room is a come-as-you-are hangout spot. I found this to be true as well. Drinks got lots of ice but are strong and priced well. Keep in mind that smoking is allowed. Ruby Room wasn't thick with smoke but had enough to make your clothes smell. Located across from the main library allows for easy parking at night. Dim red lighting inside. Diverse crowd mostly in twenties and early thirties. A score of 5 is my average ranking.

best club I've ever been bounced from. the Hotclub in Oakland-wednesday nights is a locals dance party. Plenty of beautiful male friendly girls. Intimate atmosphere-FREE-people dance and are friendly. Everyone that works there is cool-even when they're bouncing you! 86ed can't can't ever come
