A historic hotel in a bustling, East Bay setting..
The Scene
This landmark hotel was built in 1927 and offers a nice mix of Mediterranean and Art Deco styles. It provides travelers with a glimpse of the past right in the modern heart of the city.
The Details
Retro buffs will appreciate interior details such as vintage, geometric-patterned fabrics and wrought-iron chandeliers. Mohair furniture, jewel-toned carpets and rich terracotta wall colors evoke the Jazz era, while the perfectly restored lobby--peppered with potted palms--brings to mind the glamour of old Hollywood. The bedrooms are a bit on the small side; book a Parlor Suite if you need some space. A few nice nods to the 21st century include in-room data ports and voicemail. The hotel houses a swanky live jazz club on the ground floor, as well as Madison's Restaurant, an Oakland institution.
