Editorial Review for The Cosmopolitan – by Bethany Jean Clement
The Scene
The grand-scale room achieves both richness and intimacy with sonorous dark-wood paneling complemented by candlelit tables, while contemporary art and architectural floral arrangements provide a modern vibe. A somewhat older crowd appreciates the formal service and unobtrusive live jazz.
The Food
Traditional American fare is updated with top-notch seasonal ingredients and imaginative execution. An appetizer of light, rich goat cheese gnocchi is topped with crispy fried-sage leaves, and in a Caesar salad, a generous portion of pancetta and toothsome polenta cubes stand in for croutons. Gorgeously pure Niman Ranch carpaccio is well-paired with portobello fries. Tempura green beans and wasabi aioli give a kick to sushi-quality seared yellowfin tuna. Slices of grilled Angus hanger steak are complemented by spicy-tart house-made steak sauce, but it's the Yukon gold-jalapeno mashed potatoes that steal the show. A popular desert choice is the Tahitian vanilla milkshake served with oven-fresh chocolate chunk cookies.
