Ponzu

Ponzu's new chef offers a menu bridging the gap between East/West.

  • Contemporary Asian cuisine
  • Cocktail Lounge open late
  • Happy Hour M-F 4:30-6pm

How do you Ponzu? Adventurously, of course. Mix dishes to match your style. There's no ceremony here - invent your own tradition. It's Asia without a map, not strictly Chinese, Japanese or Thai. So let your chopsticks, fork and fingers be your guide. Try a little of this, sample a little of that. And if you're tempted by your neighbor's dumpling, maybe it's time to open up a trade route of your own. See our website for a sampling of our dishes. Our menu changes frequently.

Editorial Review for Ponzu – by Gina Goff

The Scene
Majestic jewel tones, plush textures and a buzzing din characterize this trendy downtown eatery. Theatergoers and well-dressed 30-something couples settle into vibrantly colored suede booths and curvaceous, high-backed banquettes dotted with dark-wood, two-top tables. Several alcoves with large round tables are partially sectioned off with thick drapes, successfully creating a private experience for larger groups without removing them from the action. In front, a swanky lounge area gives way to a striking, wavy-shaped bar, where a full menu is served.

The Food
Putting a new spin on Asian fusion, Executive Chef Michelle Mah's offerings mingle local produce and meats with imported spices and pan-Asian techniques. Tasty small plates, such as garlic naan and the refreshingly delightful combination of watermelon radishes, candied wanuts and Asian greens, tend to overshadow the larger dishes, which often lack execution. Pungent sweet and sour cherry sauce overwhelms the delicate duck breast and confit leg, though accompaniments like white turnips and savoy spinach are crowd pleasers.

I stopped in for a bite to eat and since I was solo and found out that the restaurant menu is available in the bar, I chose to sit in the bar. It was happy hour so many the appetizer items were half price so I decided to try a few different appetizers. I was blown away by how flavorful they were. I tried the ribs, the calamari and the sprin rolls. They were each fantastic. The ribs and the calamari had quite a bit of kick to them so make sure you have a nice cold beverage nearby. I highly recommend this place for a happy hour.

Pros: Great bar menu and happy hour
