The Talk
This horror/musical/comedy spoof features a very young Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick playing Janet and Brad, straight-laced lovers celebrating their recent engagement. When their car breaks down on a dark and stormy night, they stumble to a nearby ominous castle looking for a phone. But the sinister lair is the headquarters of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (a shockingly campy Tim Curry), a mad-scientist-in-mascara who has bent the rules of nature to create his own Frankenstein monster of Greek-god proportions.
The Walk
But forget all that, because the story is irrelevant, especially to the movie's adoring fans. (They make Trekkies look tame.) Irresistibly goofy song and dance numbers ensue, featuring vocals by Meat Loaf and others. Director Jim Sharman borrows liberally from the original British stage play, "The Rocky Horror Show" by Richard O'Brien (who also stars as Riff Raff, Frank-N-Furter's assistant). While some might mistakenly write the film off as merely a camp trifle that doesn't hold up without a rowdy live audience, it's actually a highly original work that reinvents itself approximately 20 times in 95 minutes. You can't help but smirk at the fact that the filmmakers got away with half of the film's material.
