not that reliable and overbooked. I went to Festoon after being slightly dissatisfied with my current stylist (plus I live close to the Berkeley salon). I got an appointment quickly, probably because the stylist was pretty new. I experienced all the things mentioned in the other reviews: she was not ready for me when I arrived on time and I had to wait quite a while. She was overbooked and had to get someone else to use a blowdryer on my hair while she talked to a client in the next chair, which I have never had happen anywhere else. The whole appointment took forever.

The style and color were both pretty bad. In fact, I would say that my hair almost looked better before I went in than it did when I left. I asked her to do something pretty similar to what I had and she managed to cut it far far too short in the front, leave too much on top, and make my color much more boring. In fact the whole style was boring. I was not impressed.

So if you have a good stylist there, it is probably okay, but they are definitely overbooking the stylists and the quality may be kind of uneven.

User review by morganemmery. I am always weary about going to a new salon, but I was very confident that my experience at Festoon would be positive and I would be really happy with my results. And guess what? I was ectastic about it. The entire staff from the front desk to the stylists to the assistants and even the small dogs that run around were so welcoming and friendly. I went to a student, who did an amazing job cutting my hair. She was able to give me the exact cut that I was thinking of, and actually, she made it even better than what I was invisioning.

Great Men's Haircut. Finally a place that can give a cool men's cut. I don't like my hair to be too clean cut looking, and this is the first place I've been to where I actually manage to walk out of the salon liking the way that my hair looks the way I want and describe to the stylist, instead of having to wait for it to grow out for a month. And the staff and stylists are always really friendly and helpful.

User review by missalice. One of my friends told me recently that I'm "that girl with the great hair." I've got Festoon to thank for that. My stylist, Paul, always manages to make my hair look better than I could imagine it could. Everyone who works there is friendly and nice and the front desk guy is hot. I can't recommend this place enough.

thanks, festoon!. there is nothing in the world like going without a decent haircut for three months, and then stepping into Festoon. my sylist and i clicked right away, and i left the salon feeling literally like a million dollars. i'd recommend a Festoon visit to anyone in a heartbeat!

David, finally a hair stylist at Copenhagen level. For the last 4 years I have been trying out hair stylists in different cities and a couple of different states.

One day, having had lunch at Cafe Claude, I passed Festoon Salon and stopped to watch a guy working on a hair cut... "That's more like it!... there he is" I went right in an got an appointment with "the guy in the corner by the window at Claude Lane. David.

Iwas right. I have finally found a stylist with independend opinions, idea, high-level technical skills, tons of training and education... and on top of that... he is a really nice person, who does not talking your ears off if you are not in the mood for that.

My husband and I now have quarterly back-to-back appointments with David Scissorhands and I have am telling all my scandinavian friends...

Go, check him out!

Bruno ... perfetto!. Through an affiliate salon in the south bay I was directed to Festoon Salon in Berkeley. Karma must have been on my side when I called to book my first appointment and they set me up with Bruno. I love doing new things with my hair. Bruno has cutting edge ideas that work well with the shape of my face and coloring. I get more compliments on my style than ever before. Bravo!

Just got the best haircut and highlights. Been looking for years for the perfect highlights and haircut and had just about given up when I met Breegan. I'm getting compliments on my hair again! I would definitely recommend her. Thanks to my friend Cory for recommending her...

Be sure to buy the $45 hair conditioner.. I've had completely inconsistent results with this salon. I've had GREAT hair cuts, all-over color, and highlights. However, I recently went in to have my bleached out (by Festoon) hair restored to a more natural darker blonde. After 2 salon visits totalling nearly 10 hours, I left with DEAD, DULL, over-processed DARK BROWN hair. I colored it twice at home, which mercifully took out some of the color. Recently went in for cut & highlights and love it again. It's a crap shoot. The Berkeley staff is SO rude and stupid, it's laughable. Really, girls, you're answering phones. Get over it.
