best chinese place on solano. There are at least 15 chinese restaurants on solano. Some good, some bad and only a couple in my opinion as being exceptional. Kirin is tops in my list. Everything I've tried here has been a winner. The food is not greasy or overly salted and the flavors are amazing. A few of my favorites are the spicy rice (made with fried tofu), the hot&sour soup, any chow fun, heck...all the noodle dishes are killer. The dining area is very spacious and the kitchen is open so u can see what's cookin'. Love coming here!
Good food, mixed service. So, I've been to Kirin twice. Both times the food was out of this world and the tea selection was delicious. However, I have to state my concerns about the service. My first time was great--a little fast and not overy attentive, but the service was just fine. However, on my most recent excursion, I was with a group of 8, and we were seated at 7:30pm (the place closes at 9). The entire meal, our waiter was rude, unattentive, and just wanted us to leave. First, we ordered appetizers, and abput 60 seconds later the waiter was back to take our order--okay, fine. But we told him we needed some time and we were in no rush, but he stood there tapping his pen against his pad, and refused to leave. We even asked him to go away, and he just took one step back. Keep in mind there were 10-15 other full tables--we were not the only people there. Our water glasses were not filled, and we were ignored all meal. Towards the end of our meal, as the place was starting to clear out, my friend who speaks Chinese told us that the staff was discussing how to get us out of there a half hour before they closed. They turned off the AC and most of the lights, started organizing their reciepts/tips, and began putting chairs onto tables and mopping the floor. At this point, the restaurant was supposed to be open for another 30 minutes! Then they REFUSED to our dessert order, and just brought us the check, and then the waiter stood there while we pooled our cash. Again, we asked him to leave, and he took two steps back and stared at us, speaking to a bus boy in Chinese (my friend translated some not-so-nice comments) as we calculated the waiter's deserved 2% tip. Again, we were not the last people in the restaurant, but we had perhaps the worst service I've had outside of a Taco Bell. So, take it for what it's worth.
Gourmet Chinese Food at its freshest. Flavors were excellent throughout all dishes. Waiters were attentive. Can't imagine ordering gourmet food "to go" because the whole point is to experience the freshness as it leaves the kitchen.
Over rated and over priced. For take out I would look elsewhere. The brocolli and beef was average. The dry wok green beans looked like they came out of a can. We paid $85.oo to feed 6 people. Very little left over (smaller serving sizes). The food was just ok.
Best scallops I ever had ....
Went here because we saw a crowd and it was a great dining experience and worth the wait (30 mins to be seated, it was busy ...). Two recommendations: the mu-shu salmon and the special scallops, both were absolutely excellent. Some of the best chinese food I've ever had ...
The other cool thing is you can see into the kitchen as the walls are glass.
Delish. The food at Kirin is delicious! Our waitress was nowhere to be found for a long time, but the wait was worth it. Try the salmon rolls, the're yummy.
