Not at the top of my list. The food was so and so, it did not look like the cleanest place to go eat either. I always assume the city is going to make sure a place is up to par but sometimes you wonder. With so many places to eat around Berkeley this place would be at the bottom of my list.
The best Indian you ate in your life.
I am a big fan of this restaurant, me and my wife have been eating here for 7 years and they are the BEST.
The chicken tikka is sooo good and the naan is wonderful. They are generous with the portion size and nobody can beat the cheap price.
Highly recommended
Terrible!!!. What are you people thinking? The meat is so overcooked you really can't eat it without choking. People say you get what you pay for but even our $9.00 lamb was overcooked with terrible flavor. Hasn't anyone had good Indian food before? I still have yet to find a decent restaurant in this city.
Tandoori delight. I love the tandoori chicken they serve and its 2.99! Its the best tandoori i've had since I moved here. I went back three times and it was prepared fresh on each occassion . And the naan's are fabulous...just ask them to add a spot of butter to them. The Free tea is another thing that draws people in. I don't like the gravy dishes much so I haven't ordered them ever.
The San Francisco mini-chain of casual Pakistani restaurants hits Berkeley..
In Short
This standby often draws an eclectic mix of young artists, professionals and expatriate families to its casul, cafeteria-style digs for tasty, budget-minded fare. The cuisine is traditional Pakistani, with spicy, butter-tender lamb curries and long-stewed vegetables. As the restaurant's name implies, homemade, freshly cooked naan bread is a specialty. Basmati rice is also served to sop up sauces.
delicious. i went here one day with my sister. when i walked in, it was fairly empty, but i guess it was still early. around 1, more and more people came and it was almost pack! our food was out there with the quickness. we ordered the spinach and garlic curry with roti and naan. it was sooooooo good! our check total was only $8. and we still had left over. what a deal!
Great Food, Great Price, Cafeteria Setting.
I don't know about the North Beach location, but the worst thing about this restaurant is that it is a cafeteria-style place with a pretty drab interior. However, the food is some of the best Indian (northern/pakistani style) food for the price in Berkeley.
A plate of excellent tandoori chicken (still on bone) is $2.99. The Naan is excellent, and the vegetarian dishes/curries are highly recommended. The Channa Masala and Saag Paneer (both around $3.99) are my favorites, along with the Tandoori Chicken. The free chai tea is very nice also.
