An eclectic, bare-bones hotel close to campus.. The Scene This three-story 19th-century building is conveniently located just a block from UC Berkeley. The exterior features enormous porches and attractive columns. But after entering through the Blackberry Ginger Cafe, which serves up Thai dishes, guests are confronted with a mishmash of Southwestern, New Orleans, Thai and farmhouse styles.
The Details The rooms are also a bit confused stylistically, with maroon comforters whose huge floral bouquets clash with the burgundy- and cream-patterned carpets. The rooms aren't bad, but aren't immaculate, either. Some mold peeks out from the corners. Basic amenities such as hair dryers, coffeemakers and irons are not provided. On the plus side, a complimentary continental breakfast is included with your stay.
