Berkeley institution.
One of those old Berkeley businesses with friendly people and an eclectic selection. Right on Telegraph near Aomeba. I recommend it for the total Berkeley experience.

Prepare to wander the aisles for hours and spend more than you can afford on tomes and poems..
The Scene
Four floors of edifying delights await browsers. The endless shelves at Moe's are packed to the rafters, spanning the alphabet of literature and encompassing writers both world-famous and obscure. The guys at the front counter--can you guess which one is Moe himself?--apparently have read every book ever written. And they're happy to answer any question--as long as it's not "Is this Jonathan Franzen guy really all that good?"
The Goods
Moe's has a way of making even the most levelheaded reader go a bit book batty. Pop in for the new David Sedaris collection and you might very well leave hours later with a Pauline Kael compendium, a beautiful volume of Walker Evans photos and the complete works of Charles Dickens. Up on the fourth floor is a store within a store that houses a fantastic collection of hard-to-find art books and other antiquarian treasures.

******.
the sales staff is really helpful, and nice, too. the prices are extremely reasonable, and there are always books there that you might not find in other bookstores. it's also a good place for people watching...go to the foreign language section, that fronts the street, and just hang out by the open window and look down below at the people walking past.
