A former New Yorker says "Best Neopolitan Pizza in CA".
To tell you where I'm coming from, the best Neopolitan style (aka "New York Style") pizza in the USA comes from Grimaldi's Pizzeria in Brooklyn, NY. Google/Bing that and you'll see. Arinell's is a close number two.
You can always judge the quality of a pizza by its plain cheese slice, and Arinell's shines here. If you need to dress up a slice with toppings to overcome the basic slice, you're starting out wrong.
And there are good quality toppings here too. Pepperoni, mushroom, onion, garlic - all the classics.
Arinell's is perfect in every way: Just the right thickness, amount of cheese, sauce, and seasoning - cooked to perfection.
You want cranberries, goat cheese, or chicken on your pizza? Go somewhere else.
TIP: Buy a pizza stone for $15 and heat your left overs the next day. Tastes every bit as good as the first slice.

Bloody Good Thin Crust Pizza..
If you prefer the doughy, thick crusts at Fat Slice or Blondie's, then skip this place. But if you love classic Neapolitan-style thin crust pizza, Arinell's is your place. Their crust is perfectly thin and blistered, and barely supports the molten layer of cheese (you'll need 2 hands free per slice) on top. The sauce is tangy and amazingly delicious. A cheese slice from Arinell's is perfect culinary simplicity. Make sure you eat it straight out of the oven for the full experience. Arinell's is esentially a walk-up counter, and their "dining room" seats approximately 8-10 people, so plan on standing up to eat your slice. Seriously some of the best pizza I've had. EVER.

THE BEST PIZZA IN THE EAST BAY.
The place isn't much to look at - take your za to go. This is the BEST PIZZA around, and probably the best plain cheese pizza I've ever had - and I'm a topping person.

I fly from NYC for this slice..
Arinell's has been my pick for the best slice since I was a kid growing up in the 70's in Berkeley. Yes, I also dabbled with that Blondie's and Fat Slice action, but nothing compairs to the crispy crust, timed to your liking at Arinell's. I live in New York City now, and I swear nothing compairs well, maybe ONE place. Sacco's in Hell's Kitchen on 9th Ave., an equivilent hole in the wall with all the NYC charms of a men's locker room.
Every time I fly back to Berkeley to see my folks, I gotta swing by Shattuck and grab that skinny slice (or 2) and a fountain soda.

Another 20 year + Fan.
If you want consistently GREAT pizza that is non-gourmet, inexpensive and pipping hot.....go to Arinell! I have been going to this place since I was in college. Those "tatooed and pierced guys" (and various variations over the years) are ALWAYS friendly.....even to a middle aged gal like me! So if you want a non-snobby, great pizza experience... this is the place!!!!
