Like you're transported to Japan.. I felt like I was in a family's kitchen. And I should know - I was in Japan three weeks ago in my family's kitchen. It's just really nice and homey at Norikonoko, and the food is delicious.

One tip: We Americans like to customize our food, but I wouldn't do that here. What's on the menu is what's on the menu. I'd encourage you to just order what sounds good and enjoy.

Authentic food, atmosphere. Walking into Norikonoko is like walking into an old retaurant in Japan. The owners are great. The atmosphere is seriously like being in a family restaurant in Japan. The food is good, very authentic. If you like fusion or trendy Japanese food, this isn't for you. But if you crave authentic old fashioned food, this is it.

And if this is your first time going, the door slides to the right...

Nostalgia. Unlike every other Japanese restaurant in the bay, this place offers Japanese homestyle cooking. The food, from the Chikara Udon (where have you ever been able to get this?) to the Shoga yaki, is very good and authentic.

Only gripe about the food is that most of the items on the menu are entrees with soup, salad, rice, and what not. When i asked if they could make the entree items into a "ippin," (a la carte) they said they wouldnt make it. I would love to have tried more items but when everything comes with soup and rice i would end up with 10 bowls of rice. I mean, whats so hard about not adding the soup and rice in?

The decor is nice, it definitely gives you something to look at while your eating.

I understand that they had only 1 waiter but when the 3 of us got there, there was at least 10 empty tables and when i asked if we could sit, the owner said that they couldnt get to us because they were short handed. Not in a very friendly manner either. I mean, I just wanted to have a beer!

All in all, I enjoyed this place, only next time I need to go on a less busy day so I can enjoy everything better.

Best Homemade Japanese Food in the Bay!. Since I work for a Japanese Beer company, I've eaten at just about every Japanese and Sushi restaurant in the Bay Area. Although there are many Japanese restaurants that are great, Norikonoko is EXTRAORDINARY!

This place has the best homemade Japanese food in the Bay, by far. Their selection of dishes is vast, but not typical. All their dishes have a special flare to them, without compromising the taste of true homemade food.

Every piece of decoration in the restaurant looks as if it was brought over from Japan. Almost as if you were in their own kitchen table.

If your tired of the same old Japanese Food, go to Norikonoko's and try them out...you won't be disappointed!

Delicious Homestyle Japanese Cooking!. Many people equate Japanese cuisine with sushi and teriyaki. If you're a little more informed, you might be familiar with udon, soba and ramen. But are these really what mom makes at home? The more worldly diner might know that that in the privacy of their own homes, Japanese people eat a much wider variety of dishes.

Norikonoko is definitely where you want to go if you want to take a different path from the ordinary sushi restaurant. This is a mom and pop place where every dish is made with care. Looking for robata, chikara udon, oden, tsukemono, onigiri or sweet taiyaki? Wishing for fresh mugicha on a hot day?

If you've never heard of these but love Japanese food, you won't be disappointed if you try Norikonoko. If you're Japanese and a little homesick, this place will be a cozy treasure that you'll return to again and again.
