well, maybe a was a bit harsh.... Having followed my colleagues a number of times at Pollo, I must say that, with the proper amount of hot sauce, their Chicken Kebab Salad is actually growing on me. The guys running the place are also very friendly. So, I would like to take the edge off my prior scathing review of the place and rank it as average among the many eateries in downtown Berkeley.

can you spell "tastless"?. I have worked downtown Berkeley for 18 years and I can think of about 20 places I would rather eat in downtown Berkeley then Pollo. I end up eating there occasionally because my colleagues have a fascination with the place that borders on fetishism. Lets talk about their eponymous dish the chicken (kebab/sandwich/salad you name it). Can you spell tasteless? Of course if you pile on enough sauces, especially hot ones, it will taste OK as you could probably eat clumps of sawdust if endowed with the same amount of external flavoring. Clearly the concept of marinating is alien to the proprietors of the place. For a much yummier chicken dish that can be had for a reasonable price, I would head for Bongo Burger on Center just a block away and get their chicken plate tender, juicy, cooked to perfection and served with a delicious tabouleh salad.

Pollo - Oh Boy Oh. Having worked in downtown Berkeley for 9 years, I've had the opportunity to taste all that it has to offer. And without a doubt, when it comes to quality, value, taste, and friendly service, Pollo is unbeatable. The chicken kebab salad is what dreams are made of. I know a few people (myself included) who can eat it five days a week. The gyros plate is also fantastic, though you might want to skip dinner if you inhale one of those for lunch. The burgers, burritos, and all day breakfast are also quite yummy. Don't let the slightly shabby exterior or pollo-haters keep you away.

Pollo. Pollo is a damn good place to eat cheap when you're hanging out in Downtown Berkeley. They serve breakfast all day, including the mighty tasty might cheap Breakfast Sandwich ($1.85). Good outdoor seating and a huge menu make this ideal for those who want save a buck and have some good eats.
