The Best Deal in town! COMFORT FOOD at its Best!.
So I just happen to stubble upon this small mexican restaurant while waiting for a table at Zachary's Pizza (the BEST PIZZA in town) which is right across the street and since we were crunched for time we decided to catch a quick bite here. To our surprise the food was awesome! Nothing too fancy, just good ole homestyle Mexican comfort food. The menu was pertty simple. It had all the standard mexican fare you'd find elsewhere but the flavor was defintely much better than most generic corporate driven places I've been to.
My girlfriend, who happens to be a big time foodie thought the decor didn't match and could've used a little brushing up... I'd have to agree with her on that but when it comes down to it the food is what REALLY matters so I still give this place a big THUMBS UP.
Great job guys, keep up the good work, and I'll be seeing you soon to get another burrito!
Still my favorite place to get my mexican food fix.. I've lived in the Bay area for over 20 years and i've noticed several imposters trying to copy the original Las Palmas in East Oakland. It's been a local favorite in the old Eastmont Mall (now the Easmont Town Center) for many reasons. I've been going to the same location for almost twenty years and I've seen the owners' children grow up too! Ever since they opened this location on College avenue some 7 years ago I exclusively come here now. Often times I'll ask coworkers out to lunch and suggest Las Palmas and more often than not they've heard of it but usually they're familiar with an imitator. So just to get the record straight, there are two original LAS PALMAS locations: the very first location is at the Eastmont Town Center, the second location is at 5804 College ave. the owners told me that they're working on a third location but didn't tell me where/when. ALL OTHER LOCATIONS, like "las palmas super burrito" & "las palmas burrito and fish n chips" are sad imposters that've stolen the name and are riding the wave of over twenty years of success. i should know, i've seen them come and go and the owner is a friend of mine... he's told me about the others but his english isn't so good so as a friend, i'm helping him set it straight. you've been forewarned.
Great Mexican Take Out. This mexican restaurant really surprised me. I've been passing it for the longest time on my way home from BART. There's always people in it, but it's never really crowded. I finally got around to stopping in for a quick bite to eat. Pretty much everything exceeded my expectations. They have a great salsa bar in the back, the menu has a wide selection, the food was excellent, and the service was quick and stress-free. It's beyond me as to why they aren't busier. I eat out almost every meal, and this restaurant is definitely going to get added to my regular rotation.
Little Known Mexican Food Gem. This mexican restaurant has great fresh food with lots of variety. I recommend the pork tamales with red mole sauce. They also serve cheese steaks, which is kind of odd until you try one. I love them with the hot and sweet peppers, but it's quite a lot of food so be prepared for leftovers. The french fries are the best steak fries around. They're cooked exactly the way I like them; crisp on the outside and soft & piping hot in the middle.
Great Eats. This is a great Mexican joint with excellent basics for those just looking for some good grub and infinite customizations for the pickiest palate. Everything is fresh, including the free chips and salsa bar, which are made on-site. My personal favorite is the Red Mole Chicken Burrito w/mucho jalepenos + mole sauce & melted cheese on top. Mmmm .....
Good neighborhood buritos. Las Palmas makes very good burritos. I recommend the Las Palams seasoned chicken with the sun dried tomato tortilla. The salsa is also very good.
