A storybook-themed park on Oakland's picturesque Lake Merritt.. In Short
Opened in 1950, Children's Fairyland recalls a simpler time when imagination and human interaction were hallmarks of children's play and learning. Covering 10 acres near Lake Merritt, the park houses rides, theaters, and fairytale exhibits. Predating Disneyland, the architecture here is like a three-dimensional cartoon--a giant genie rises from a lamp, Alice's rabbit hole is a real slide, the real Billy Goats Gruff are here for petting. Teachers bring young students to supplement their curriculum. The centerpiece of the Fairyland experience has always been its puppet shows, magicians and storytellers. Kids (8 and under) are entertained and interact with classic fairy tales as well as original puppet shows. Musicians sing story-songs, clowns make kids laugh and magicians and jugglers amaze. There's also an activities center offering arts and crafts classes for families.

My kids love Children's Fairyland!. I just took my kids to Fairyland and all three of my kids loved it! It was perfect for my 4 year old daughter, plus my 1 year old daughter and 8 year old son were able to enjoy it as well. With the child size rides, the puppet shows, and the fairytale play areas you can?t go wrong. My son?s favorite part was the playing on the Pirate Ship and Western Town while my daughter?s enjoyed the Cafe?s cotton candy.

Though the small amusement is obviously old (1950?s) it is starting to get a fresh face. They have recently repainted the Owl and the Cat area along with the Alice in Wonderland, plus the addition of the Espresso Bar is great! Rumor has it they are also adding a new tunnel, ride, and theater. My daughter?s birthday parties are always great, and she wants hers in the Cinderella area again. Plus I?m planning on signing my son up for their summer day camp this year.

My children and I love Fairyland and it?s great for kids!
