We had a great time.. I ate dinner here last Friday, and I have to say I'm fairly impressed. When we were seated the hostess told us they had just rolled out with a new menu. Our waitress recommended the mustard-tarragon salmon, so I tired that. It was fantastic. Good recommendation. She really made our night... she was funny, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable.

We had a great time.

This place has really turned it around!!. I used to come here a long while back, but haven't been for years. When my friend asked me to join her here I jumped at the chance. This place has really turned it around from what I remember. The food was amazing, our waiter was great, and we had a wonderful time. I'm not sure why I stopped coming here, but I know I'll be coming back!

Salmon caused bad stomach ache/nausea/dizziness & No apologies from manager or chef!. 12/5 a friend and I ate salmon entrees, two different ones. That night, I became ill with a bad stomach ache, nausea, and dizziness. Initially, I thought I was coming down with something, but after eating leftovers the following day, I experienced the same symptoms. I contacted my friend and found that she had the same experience! So, it was definitely the salmon! To date (12/12) manager and chef have not offered an apology to me! Food is not fresh, and the service is obviously awful.

3 1/12 stars?????. I have had mixed experiences here. Lunch has been good. However at night, this service takes and major nose dive. Its kind of like going to pizza hut and being served on by Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. There seems to be little interest in providing quality dining experience or good food. The bartender essentially ignored us (even though she glanced at us from time to time) because she was too caught up in a personal conversation with another staff member. Amazingly poor service.

Location, location, location. Crogan's is conveniently located in Montclair, which is great because there are few restaurants open after 8 pm in this area. The crowd appears to be a relatively local crowd because of its location. I would guess that few would travel any distance to get here. I have eaten here a couple of times because of its location, but have resigned myself to the fact that I would rather drive someplace else. Each time I have come the food has been mediocre and the service temperamental. On my first visit I ordered a steak that was over cooked, it was returned to me virtually raw. A second complaint elicited an attitude from the attitude from the manager who insisted that both steaks were cook correctly. Huh? (A bar regular told me to avoid the food ? She comes for the better than average shots of whiskey.) Anyway a second trip to crogan?s resulted in a similar experience, my soup was cold and my tamale was hard. A comment to the bar tender resulted in rolling eyes and being ignored. I love to eat out and as one in the restaurant business I understand the need for some basic customer service. Bottom line- If you live in Montclair and have a car, drive somewhere else. If you don?t have a car get, something delivered.

Just Good Food. Crogans is a full menu restaurant with an ecclectic selection of entrees. Some of its specialties, all of which I've tried and enjoyed, are: lamb shanks on mashed potatoes (to die for); fish and chips (best in the Bay Area); BBQ ribs (lean and mean); and sirloin and salad (the low carb delight). Crogans is a bar and grill, with a huge bar clientele that tends to the noisy side...so this is not your nice quiet interlude spot. But it's bearable back in the booths away from the bar. The service is very good; the waiters are well trained and attentive. All in all, this is a place worth the cost and worth going back over and over, which I have been doing for years.
