Morning, noon or evening Arizmendi is a favorite for pastries, cheap good coffee and pizza. Oh the pizza. A must try for tourists.

Arguably the city's best pizza, bread and breakfast treats--all in the same place.. In Short
There's one bench and a couple of chairs for pizza eaters to perch on while munching, but this is really a takeout sort of place. Thin-crusted sourdough pizza is crammed with different toppings daily. While the bakery makes a variety of breads each day, the sourdough bread is good enough to come back for. Rolls, cheese, yogurt and pastries--including chocolate cake--are available to make the start of your day a little sweeter.

Amazing baked goods!. This is an incredible bakery, but not in a super fancy, chi chi sort of way. These are hearty, crumbly, chewy delicious goods like you wish someone at home would make.

A Carbo-holic's heaven. When I am in the mood for fabulous baked goods, or when I need to pick up items for British-style afternoon tea, I go on over to Arizmendi. First stop, the scones. They are tasty, large sized and made with wholesome ingredients. My current favorite: Chocolate Walnut. Next, sandwich bread. They have a few varieties of excellent foccacia, as well as batard, rolls and baguettes. The asiago rolls are superlative! Lastly, shortbread cookies. The ginger shortbread are out of this world! I cannot attest to the pizza, but I hear it's pretty great.

The downside - most items are sold by the pound, so you are never sure exactly how much you will spend. And they don't take credit cards.

By the way, if you decide to sit and enjoy the goodies on the premises, they have a decent variety of teas, and their coffee is good.

Way more than just pizza. I think someone who went here just for the pizza would be disappointed. It is fabulous pizza, but you don't get to pick your toppings, and there's only one kind per day. However, the baked good really steal the show. Check Atkins at the door and enjoy the wholesome, delicious breads, scones, cookies, and other lovely treats. The Lakeshore branch features cheeses from Cheese Board, and I think both Lakeshore and San Pablo offer homemade lemon curd for your--gasp--fresh strawberry scone. The best part is it's a worker-owned cooperative, so you can rest assured that no one is getting (too) exploited on the premises. Yay!

DRIVE FROM DANVILLE FOR THE PIZZA. I am a pizza connosieur. And not just any pizza. What Zachary's is to Chicago style. Arizmendi's is to healthy, vegetarian pizza! Eat all you want. It is rich in flavor but low in fatty ingredients.

And talk about Berkely style toppings: ricota cheese, potatoes, cilantro, lemon juice, sweet peppers; once combination every day...Keeps the suspense going and you coming back.

And there's a steady flow of baked good fans. I must admit I haven't partaked in too many of their baked goods. I'm there for the pizza. Any of friends and family who have the luck of hanging out on that day also have become instant fans.

First rate bakers. The bread here is world class - (and I should know as my family has collectively over 70 years in the baking and confectionery industry!).

Nice staff - one time I was in the cafe for hours, eating lots of pizza and drinking coffee with my friend Anne Fagan from Ireland - and the guy working there just gave us some pizza for free as it was extra! Nice!

best pizza in oakland!. amazing pizza! the pizza changes everyday and they use the freshest ingredients. it's soooooo yummy!
