Located in the heart of North Oakland, the space is pleasantly decorated with homey rugs and beautiful ethnic art pieces, and the walls are donned with posters of Black literary heroes. Ask the friendly staff a few questions and you might wind up enjoying an intense debate that would Marcus Garvey proud.

They either have or can quickly get their hands on any book you are looking for. They give great recommendations on books. The staff is very friendly, understanding and helpful. When I enter the Oakland store, I always feel a sense of community, because staff and patrons alike are sharing their life experiences as they relate to various books they touch. I always leave feeling like I've been well served. Thank you Marcus Books for being there throughout the years. My mother used to bring me there when I was in elementary school and now I am over 30.

Marcus bookstore is located in North Oakland a block away from MacArthur BART station. They carry newly released books, magazines, as well as older books that have been out of print. You can also find calendars, greeting cards, and writing journals all reasonably priced. Unlike a lot of larger bookstore chains, the staff at Marcus can not only direct you to the book youre looking for, but they can make suggestions for other books as well because amazingly they have either read or discussed all the books they sell.
