Best dumplings in Bay Area. Ok, this is one of those secret spots that everyone should know about. Northern Chinese dumplings (Jiaozi) are probably my favorite food, and no place does it better than Shandong. We used to have these flown to us in Seattle. I've tried hundreds of other dumpling places, and none compare to Shandong. Even those in China.

Oh, and get the sesame noodles too. Mmm...

Veggie bun on your lucky day. Shan Dong is one of the few places in Oakland Chinatown with Northern Chinese cuisine including freshly made buns, noodles and dumplings. You can also watch the dumpling lady making fresh food near the doorway, seemingly at all hours. The employees there are super-nice, and they're celebrating their 15-year anniversary right now. They have a good pork bun, but on special days (or if you order in advance), they have a wonderful veggie bun. I have figured out, after much request and research, that they have those regularly Thursdays-Sundays.

Good Eats. I love this place for some good, cheap food. Don't bring a date here becuase it's not the best atmosphere, but the food is killer. Have the Shan Dong Beef, Shan Dong Chicken, or Sesame Paste Noodles. In fact, try their hand cut noodles, dumplings, or buns too. The owner is a friendly guy too if you talk to him. You can't go wrong.

Our favorite Chinese restaurant in Oakland. This is one of our favorite places for Chinese food in Oakland. Definitely try the Shan Dong special dumplings, dry braised string beans, sauteed pea sprouts, and anything with their homemade hand cut noodles.
