Oakland's retail-entertainment mecca is a treat for shoppers and history buffs.. In Short
Shopping here may not be quite as adventurous as the stories its namesake penned, but you can certainly soak in some of the novelist's history. You can see the transcontinental railroad's 1887 terminus. Grab a friend and spend a day exploring this area where you'll find plenty of shopping and dining venues. Ride the ferry, stroll along the boardwalk and take in the fresh seaside air.

Great place to stay. Stayed at a local hotel for the weekend. Good restaurants and easy access to every where I wanted to go made this an enjoyable weekend. Area is clean there is plenty to do when you don't feel like going into SF.
