East Coast style in Northern California.. The Scene
Located on the waterfront in the East Bay, this hotel opened in 2003. With its gray clapboard, the luxury business lodging looks as if it belongs in New England. It is minutes from Jack London Square, home to restaurants, shops and the largest bookstore in Northern California. It offers a nice alternative to the larger convention properties in the area.

The Details
This hotel overlooks a pristine estuary, which attracts both local and migrating birds to its grassy waterways. The estuary can be seen from most of the guest rooms, which feature private balconies--there are few more peaceful places to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. Accommodations are classic, with masculine wood furnishings and large work desks with ergonomic chairs. The hotel's lobby lounge is hopping most evenings.
