Beautiful Zoo. This is a Zoo that people should really see. There animals seem very happy and very well taken care of.
Animal lovers and children enjoy a variety of habitats at this zoo nestled in the Oakland Hills..
Covering 100 acres of Knowland Park, the Oakland Zoo is home to more than 400 animals from around the world. Several distinct habitats are recreated here; African Veldt, African Savanna, Australian Outback and a Tropical Rainforest. Perennial zoo favorites like giraffes, elephants, lions and monkeys are all well-represented. The children's zoo houses alligators, otters, goats and the like. Kids are allowed to pet some of the domestic animals.
The zoo includes a rides area where kids can enjoy carousels and a small train that makes periodic trips around the park. A sky ride transports visitors high above the zoo for a bird's-eye view. Some of the rides require a small extra fee, but a park with picnic tables is free to the public. Other facilities include an environmental education center complete with classrooms, discovery room and a theater.
