Worst Salon in Walnut Creek!.
I have been going here for approximately 2 years and I just can't take it anymore, as it has gone completely down hill! I agree with the girl below. They are only trying to make a quick buck. If you want to be rush out, treated like you don't matter then go here.
The people that work here seem miserable with their job or life, I don't know what it is. But I am WILLING to pay top dollar and STILL DO NOT get the service I request!
Nice afternoon. I went here to celebrate becoming employed again, and found this spa to be a pleasantly run, albeit a bit noisy establishment. That's always the risk you run when the spa is attached to a shop. The foot bath was nice except for the ladies sitting next to me yakking like they were in a nail salon. Ladies: Spa etiquette: If you are in a dimly lit part of the spa where people are quietly relaxing.....please do so yourselves! My massage was perfect, and the massage tech listened carefully to my needs and kept checking with me throughout. My only complaint is that for my manicure, the nail technicians are out in the lobby of the salon, which is a bit jarring when you've just been in a quiet massage. Pedicures, however, are done in the quiet part of the salon, and I did have a wonderful "dozing pedicure" where she reclined my chair back while she worked on my tootsies....never had that before! Overall, nice people, however, and great afternoon!
Great products if you have the money. I get both my hair and waxing done at Changes because the staff is incredibly professional. As soon as you walk into the salon, you don't feel like an outsider (as some salons can often make you feel like). Everything is incredibly sanitary and modern, and the products available for purchase are some of the top names. They always make me feel like a superstar, whether getting my hair cut or waxing something. The prices are a bit steep for its suburban location, but I only go once in a great while to make my money stretch. They understand that and always take it into consideration. In addition, they have late hours so I rarely find them completely booked.
Overpriced stylists.
It was awful until I found Jim. He was great! My hair is very asian - straight and on top of that thin too. So I like short haircuts with graduated bob at the back and an A line in the front. I've never been happy after the haircuts until I found him. Once when he wasn't available Rachel had cut my hair and I left very unhappy. First of all, the woman wore extremely uncomfortable clothes (tight jeans and high heels) that prevented her from bending down. And she used a razor blade the whole time, even though I kept asking her to use the scissors.
Without knowing that Jim has left the Changes I called the place last week and was told that he is not there, but they insisted in finding someone else who could cut my hair. That someone else was Elisabeth. She was clueless what I wanted! In a minute she started to cut I knew if was going to be a fiasco. I was ready to cry when I saw a stylist next to us cutting someone's hair. That was basically the haircut I wanted and I told Elisabeth about it. And then that stylist next to us - Caron looked what I had and I think she knew Elisabeth's incompetence and stepped in and cut my hair! And saved my day.
Elisabeth can't cut hair, maybe she is good at coloring, but she is not a good stylist. But it's not fair that she charges $52!
Stay away from this place.
After being 15 mins. late for my appointment because there was NO parking with in 6 blocks things went from bad to worse. Me being late seemed ok because the hair stylist was 30 mins late her self.
I asked for some low lights and my hair is so dark... I cant even stand to look in the mirror.
The hair stylist knew I was not happy and yet did NOT offer to fix the problem because she thought my hair would become damaged by what she had done.
And if thats not bad...... $200 dollars later I will have to pay someone else to fix my hair......
Bottom line .
Bad Parking, inexperience, Over priced
EXPENSIVE BUT WORTH IT. I have been going to Changes for a while now. My first experience was HORRIBLE. I had extremly long, thick, and naturally curly hair. I told my stylist, Jim, that I only wanted a trip. He kept insisting that I get more and more cut off. I told him no! Not only that but I was kicked out before he was even done drying it because he said he had another client coming in. I then received a gift card from someone and decided to give it another chance. I called and asked for a senior stylist who could cut natually curly, thick hair, and I wanted enough time to have my hair dryed straight. I saw Jack, and was WONDERFUL!!! He knew exactly what I wanted and I absolutely loved my hair cut (I had about 8 inches cut off). Jack's hair cuts are about $20 more than anyone else there and his schedule is booked for months out. That being said I have started going to Lauren and she does a great job too. If you don't mind waiting 3-6 months for an appointment I would highly recommend Jack..NOT JIM! But Laruen is great as well. Overall, I always leave with a great cut, which can sometimes be very hard with naturally curly hair. If you need your hair dryed make sure you tell them when you book or you will be kicked out.
GREAT SALON VERY CLEAN AND WONDERFUL STAFF. THIS SALON IS WONDERFUL. A LITTLE ON THE HIGH SIDE FOR HAIR CARE PRODUCTS AND HAIR SERVICES. IT'S WORTH CHECKING OUT ONCE
ABSOLUTE ABOMINATION HAIRCUT.
I had a gorgeous haircut that I had gotten at a very fine salon in New York. 2 months later I needed a hair trim. I requested a senior hairstylist who could work with curly hair. She was shown closeup pictures of the original haircut from front, back, and both sides, and asked to follow the lines of the original haircut. She was also told that I specifically did not want many layers, because my very curly hair would frizz if she did that. I ended up with a misshapen hairstyle, so much layering I couldn't see straight, and my beautiful, elegant original hairstyle completely butchered.
On top of that, the stylist was so lost, that she piled on hair product after hair product while blowdrying, until eventually my ridiculously styled hair was gunky, flat and sticking out funny. I rushed home to wash my hair, just to keep from looking goulish.
After calling and comp-lainging to the manager, I was offered a free hairstyling to correct the mistakes, but my hair had been so completely chopped up that the new stylist and I both agreed that we would have to wait at least 2 months before he could even attempt to correct the problem.
The manager expressed surprise when I told her my haircut was so bad and told me that she herself would have recommended that particular stylist. Knowing that the manager would recommend someone so inept made me uneasy. However, I must say that the second stylist was genuine and straightforward and seemed to understand what had gone wrong.
IT will be 6-8 months for my hair to grow enough so that I can have the original hairstyle I loved, because the stylist cut the whole thing up so bad.
Perfect hair color!!. I came in desperately needing my color fixed. My roots were grey, then I had a band of color (I ashamedly admit I did my own color at home), then the rest of my hair was a different color. I was scheduled with Robin who just finished the training program at Changes so I was a bit nervous. She did a great consultation and then met with a educator about my "formula". I couldn't believe how perfectly she got the color to match! The band is gone, the grey is gone and it was a bargain compared to the place I used to go. She also sold me a Bumble product to spray on my roots to cover the grey since I wait too long...I highly recommend Robin and Changes.
Worst Salon in the Bay.
I went to changes salon, excited to get my hair colored and cut. Unfortunately I left very sad, disappointed, and distressed. The colorist did not listen to what I asked for (and we discussed for 10 minutes) at all. Normally it takes about an hour for a colorist to do highlights on my thick hair, but it took this lady over 2 hours! When she was done my hair was not Blonde....it was ORANGE. I was still expecting to get a haircut (since that is what i scheduled 3 weeks in advanced), but I was told since it took so long to do my highlights I was going to have to reschedule because she had another client waiting. I was basically kicked out of the salon with terrible highlights, no haircut, and the rudest service I have ever experiences in my life.
I then called a manager to discuss what could be done about this. I agreed to come in and meet with a 'senior' stylist to figure out how to fix the color. Coming in the next day the stylist tried to fix it, but only made my hair even more yellow/orange. It was horrible. I explained my frustrations and the lady then told me 'it could be impossible to reach the color you are wanting' (which it isnt due to the fact I have had it all my life...and went somewhere else the following week and had it corrected perfectly). The only redeeming quality at Changes Salon was that they issued me my money back. I would never send anyone here for anything. It seems like all their stylists are untrained and just looking to make a quick buck. Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!
