BEST ITALIAN FOOD IN THE EAST BAY. First of all... no, I don't work at Prima. But I've dined there about 15 times in the last year, and I was just there last week. The food is some of the most authentic regional Italian in the Bay Area (my other favorite is A16 in San Francisco). The menu changes weekly, the ingredients and the spirit of the food is top notch, the service is knowledgable and elegant, the tables are romantically lit, and the wine list is one of the most comprehensive and extensive in the Bay Area (they have a wine shop attached), and the managers are always keeping a watchful eye. If you're a foodie, don't miss this restaurant. If you're a wine lover, make sure you check out the display of large format first growths!

Gross. My mother is italian, so granted, I may be biased. I thought that the food was terrible, over-priced, and downright lowsy. They obviously do not understand the basics of Italian cuisine- SIMPLICITY=QUALITY.

Past was certainly NOT al dente, and eating pasta any other way is a sin.

Not a good value for your money. Prima has a very nice atmosphere. With that said, the food and service is mediocre. We went to Prima to celebrate my husband?s birthday. It was a very rainy day and there were accidents all over. A few people in the party were late and this irritated the wait staff. We understood and ordered quickly. When all was said and done our bill for 8 people was over $1000 and we were asked to leave because the room was reserved for another party! I could not believe we were asked to leave. I will never go to this place again.

True Italian Food in Walnut Creek. Prima has come a long way since I first dined here 10 years ago. The new chef/owner is a real asset to this establishment. For a very unique dining experience, ask for the chef to prepare a meal for you. There is no chance that you will be dissappointed. From antipasto to pasta, fish, meat and dessert - every dish is fresh and flavorful. I loved the wine we were suggested to drink and was able to take a bottle home with me (after purchasing it from their wine shop next door).

Focus on the apetizers and the wine. Prima didn't disappoint us entirely, but at the same time it didn't impress us immensely either. Their service and decor is quite good. The tuna appetizer and the spinach gorgonzola salad was very good, comparable to some of the good S.F. restaurants. But the New York steak that I ordered was quite mediocore. Considering I spent almost $35 dollars on that piece of meat, I had higher expectations! The osso buco my husband ordered was more flavorful, but to me this restaurant has a long way to go before people start queing up for their entrees. If I could do it all over again, I would get more of their appetizers, make a meal out of it. Have their wine, skip the main course entirely, and head for their desserts, if I have any room left!

Editorial Review. Upscale Walnut Creek restaurant serves classic Italian dishes with sommelier-chosen wine pairings from Prima Vini, the restaurant's sister wine store.

OMG. I loved this restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing. The service was fantastic. My server was extremely knowledgeable, which seems to be rare lately. I came on a Friday night. There was a live Jazz band that is there regularly. The wine list was amazing. There were well over a 1,000 wines on the list. Overall, I'd have to say this one of my most memorable dining experiences.
